Book Review: Gut-Brain Secrets by R.D. Lee
Introduction
I am not even sure what R.D Lee’s background is, however with that being said, this has to be in the top 5 books I have ever read on health. The central theme of this book is the gut, and how a leaky gut leads to so many detrimental downstream effects that can manifest in many different ways, from autism to ADD to cardiovascular disease. He talked about everything from how the immune system works to vaccines to how the liver detoxifies the body.
7 Major Takeaways:
This is probably the biggest takeaway… inflammation is the process where the immune system destroys invading organisms, toxins, heavy metals, and your own worn out damaged cells, this is before the healing phase is activated. If the healing phase is never activated, or it is activated but the immune system is still attacking the toxin or pathogen, this is chronic inflammation
Glyphosate gets inserted into protein instead of Glysine, this disrupts chemical reactions, especially the C450 enzymes in the liver which are used for detoxification
Bacteria are essential for gene regulation in humans- they can control epigenetics
Gut health is defined by the ratio of probiotic bacteria to pathogenic bacteria, there will always be pathogenic bacteria in the gut, and they actually have a role to play as well, however if there are too many this could lead to issues such as leaky gut which can lead to even more issues
Pathogens by themselves are not inherently bad, what matters is the ability of your immune system to handle the pathogen, what may literally put one person in the hospital may do nothing to another hospital, and they could both have the same pathogen
Cholesterol is actually an important antioxidant. It does not cause heart disease, it’s there to help recovery and heal the arteries. It also happens to help regulate mood by producing serotonin
Mitochondria use fat/glucose and oxygen to create ATP, with water, magnetism and charge as byproducts.
Conclussion:
This book is amazing, these are just some random snippets of stuff I thought was important. I wrote these notes in the margins, however this book took me 3 weeks to read and to somewhat understand, it’s probably one of the most important books you could read.
